Edison High School is home to 3000 students; virtually all of whom use the current pool throughout the school year through physical education programs or swimming, diving and water polo sports. Additionally, hundreds more students in the Special Ability Cluster program who have varying physical and mental challenges use the pool throughout the year. City summer programs add another 1,800 swimmers to the mix.
Surrounding residents from infants to seniors use the Edison High School Pool through learn to swim programs for all ages and senior swim and water aerobics programs. There are also competitive swim, dive and water polo programs including children of all ages.
HBUHSD reported their ethnicity in 2015-2016 as 39% white, 27% Hispanic or Latino, 25% Asian, with 8% about equally divided between American Indian, African Americans, Filipino Americans, and Pacific Islanders. The remaining percentage was either a combination of races or unreported.
From the above description of aquatic usages, it is evident that a modern pool is intrinsic to serving the community in a number of ways that complement the needs and life style of a beach community such as ours.
